Manufacturers are increasingly interested in digitally pinpointing and inspecting large parts and surfaces that are simply out of range of a traditional handheld 3D laser scanner, touch probe or reflector. The Hexagon Leica Absolute Tracker ATS600 is ready to meet the challenges of these new applications with a unique working principle that can accurately locate a point in 3D space with metrology-grade accuracy without the need for a reflector at the point of measurement.
Based on the established Wave-Form Digitiser technology behind some high-end surveying tools, the ATS600 is powered by the first ever Scanning Absolute Distance Meter, a metrology-grade iteration of this technical principle that can locate a point to within 300 microns from up to 60 metres away.
By measuring a series of such points across a user-definable measurement area, the ATS600 can quickly produce a measurement grid defining the target measurement surface. The density of that point-grid is also customisable, putting the operator in complete control of the balance between process speed and the level of detail that will feed into your metrology software.
With the Leica Absolute Tracker ATS600, objects that previously required significant time investments to digitise, or which were even beyond the realistic possibility of efficient measurement, can be quickly brought into the world of 3D analysis by a single operator. With the world’s first ‘direct scanning laser tracker’, productive quality control is primed to expand into entirely new areas of production, powered by a fundamental shift in the way we think about 3D measurement.
The ATS600 also delivers many of the features familiar from the rest of our Absolute Tracker product range, including reflector measurement at up to 80 metres distance, with full PowerLock capability. Combining reflector measurement and direct scanning capabilities delivers impressive all-round performance for large-scale measurement tasks, with scanning quickly describing surfaces and individual reflector readings used for alignment and defining features.
Direct Scanning Without Reflectors
The Leica Absolute Tracker ATS600 was the world’s first laser tracker capable of directly measuring surfaces without requiring a reflector at every measurement point. This innovative technology allows operators to capture accurate dimensional data on large parts, assemblies, and structures from a safe distance.
Scanning Absolute Distance Meter (ADM)
At the heart of the ATS600 is Hexagon’s Scanning Absolute Distance Meter technology, which accurately determines the position of measured points in 3D space without physical contact. This breakthrough capability enables efficient inspection of surfaces that are difficult or impossible to reach using traditional measurement methods.
Long-Range Surface Measurement
The ATS600 can perform reflectorless measurements at distances of up to 60 meters, making it ideal for large-scale manufacturing, aerospace, power generation, shipbuilding, and heavy industrial applications where conventional handheld scanners are impractical.
User-Defined Measurement Grids
Operators can scan specific areas and generate customizable measurement grids across target surfaces. Point density can be adjusted to match project requirements, allowing users to optimize inspection speed while capturing the level of detail needed for analysis and reporting.
Increased Inspection Productivity
Large parts that previously required extensive setup, multiple instruments, or lengthy digitizing processes can be measured more efficiently with a single ATS600 system. This streamlined workflow reduces inspection time while improving overall project productivity.
Combined Scanning and Reflector Tracking
In addition to direct scanning, the ATS600 functions as a full-featured Leica laser tracker. Reflector measurements can be performed at distances up to 80 meters and integrated seamlessly with scanning data for alignment, feature measurement, and dimensional verification.
PowerLock Automatic Target Acquisition
Leica’s proven PowerLock technology automatically locates and tracks reflectors, minimizing setup time and improving efficiency during alignment, installation, and inspection projects.
Portable Metrology Solution
The ATS600 combines advanced scanning and laser tracking capabilities in a portable platform designed for field and shop-floor environments. The system can be rapidly deployed for on-site inspections, equipment installation, and quality control applications.
Ideal Applications
- Large-scale dimensional inspection
- Aerospace assembly verification
- Power generation equipment measurement
- Industrial installation and alignment
- Reverse engineering
- Manufacturing quality control
- Tooling and fixture inspection
- Shipbuilding and heavy fabrication
- As-built documentation
The Leica Absolute Tracker ATS600 transformed large-volume metrology by introducing direct scanning technology to laser tracking, enabling faster inspections and more efficient measurement of large industrial components and structures.
Manufacturers and industrial service teams are increasingly challenged with measuring large parts, complex assemblies, and detailed surfaces that are difficult or inefficient to inspect with traditional handheld scanners, touch probes, or reflector-only laser tracker workflows. The Hexagon Leica Absolute Tracker ATS800 is designed for these demanding large-scale metrology applications, combining direct scanning and reflector tracking in one portable measurement system.
The ATS800 can capture high-accuracy reflectorless measurements from up to 40 meters away, allowing operators to measure surfaces, edges, holes, slots, and other features without physically placing a target at every point of inspection. This makes it especially valuable for large components, installed equipment, production tooling, and structures where access, time, or safety constraints make conventional measurement methods impractical.
Using advanced C-FMCW scanning and TruePoint interferometer technology, the ATS800 delivers fast, precise measurement data for complex geometries and large surfaces. Operators can scan defined areas to generate detailed measurement grids, then adjust point density based on the project’s required balance of speed, coverage, and inspection detail.
For alignment and setup tasks, the ATS800 also supports full 3D reflector tracking with Hexagon PowerLock technology. This allows reflector-based measurements to be used alongside direct scanning, giving customers the flexibility to quickly capture surfaces while still using reflector points for alignment, positioning, and critical feature verification.
With the Leica Absolute Tracker ATS800, Rotatek can help customers reduce inspection time, improve measurement coverage, and bring large-scale parts and industrial equipment into accurate 3D analysis faster than traditional measurement methods.
Direct Scanning Without Reflectors
The ATS800 enables high-accuracy measurement of large parts, assemblies, and surfaces without placing reflectors on every measurement point. This capability significantly reduces setup time while allowing operators to capture critical dimensional data from a safe distance.
Advanced Large-Scale Inspection
Designed for demanding industrial applications, the ATS800 can inspect large components and structures that are difficult to measure using traditional handheld scanners or contact measurement methods. The system quickly captures measurement data across broad surfaces while maintaining metrology-grade accuracy.
Flexible Data Collection
Operators can define measurement areas and adjust scan density to meet project requirements. Whether performing rapid inspections or collecting detailed surface information, the ATS800 provides the flexibility to balance measurement speed with data resolution.
Combined Scanning and Tracking Technology
The ATS800 integrates direct scanning capabilities with traditional laser tracker functionality. High-precision reflector measurements can be used for alignment, feature verification, and coordinate system establishment, while direct scanning rapidly captures surface geometry and dimensional information.
PowerLock Automatic Target Acquisition
Hexagon’s proven PowerLock technology automatically locates and tracks reflectors, improving productivity and reducing downtime during alignment, installation, and inspection projects.
Single-Operator Efficiency
Large-scale measurement tasks that once required extensive setup, multiple instruments, or significant labor can often be completed by a single operator. This streamlined workflow helps reduce project costs while accelerating inspection and quality control processes.
Ideal Applications
- Industrial equipment installation
- Precision alignment projects
- Large-scale dimensional inspection
- Manufacturing quality control
- Reverse engineering
- As-built verification
- Tooling and fixture inspection
- Power generation equipment measurement
- Aerospace and heavy manufacturing applications
